On this day in music history in 2016, David Bowie released his twenty-fifth and final studio album Blackstar.

The album coincided with his 69th birthday and just two days before his unfortunate death. It ended up becoming his first and only album ever to reach No.1 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the United States.

It is the album that changed the world. The album that shattered records. The album that announced to the universe that Michael Jackson was the “King of Pop.” Thriller was released November 30, 1982.

On This Day: In 1973 Ringo Starr Went #1 With Photograph

In 1973, Ringo Starr went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Photograph’. His first of two US chart toppers as a solo artist.

Written by Starr and George Harrison, the promotional film shot for the single showed Starr walking around his new house at the time, Tittenhurst Park, which had been previously the home of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and where the ‘Imagine’ promo film was shot.

The Rolling Stones Announce A 2019 US Tour

Of course they are! The Rolling Stones are bringing their No Filter Tour to U.S. stadiums in 2019. Their 13-show tour will kick off April 20th at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida and will wrap up June 21st at Soldier Field in Chicago. Tickets will go on sale November 30th at 10:00 a.m.

“It’s a thrill when we play stadiums in the States,” front man Mick Jagger said in a statement.

“The energy is always amazing! I’ve always loved playing the states. It’s a great crowd, adds Keith Richards.”

On this day in 1993, Nirvana recorded their MTV unplugged special at Sony Studios, New York. Nirvana played a setlist composed of mainly lesser-known material and cover versions of songs by The Vaselines, David Bowie, Meat Puppets and Lead Belly.

On This Day in 1968: The Jimi Hendrix Experience Chart #1 with Electric Ladyland

The Jimi Hendrix Experience went to No.1 on the US album chart with their third and final studio album Electric Ladyland. The double album included ‘Crosstown Traffic,’ ‘Voodoo Chile’ and a version of Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along the Watchtower’.

This would end up being Jimi’s Final album with the group before he then decided to start up The Band of Gypsys. The 50th Anniversary box set for Electric Ladyland was just released this past Friday.
